The
Neighborhood Business Development Methodology is a structured
how-to-guide for generating business development strategies. It
offers inner-city economic development practitioners a Web-based
tool designed to maximize the effectiveness of neighborhood-level
business development efforts. Using a framework of four robust,
rigorous and pragmatic modules accompanied by a set of tools, the
methodology guides practitioners through data collection and analyses
processes that ultimately yield a precise description of existing
conditions and present multiple business-development options.
The framework is based on the assumption that economic development
strategies should be based on the competitive advantages of individual
inner-city neighborhoods. While each of the four modules is important,
the methodology allows for flexibility in their application. Communities
may choose to follow only the modules most relevant to their circumstances
or undertake specific activities at different points. The principle
that remains constant is the need to maximize community participation. |
